This wonderful Antique Victorian French butterfly-shaped brooch has been modelled in Silver and features a wonderful example of the plique-à-jour technique upon its blue wings. The brooch also features a wonderful array of sparkling white Paste stones and two beautiful red Paste stones as its eyes.
Plique-à-jour (French for "letting in daylight") is an enamelling technique where the enamel is applied with no backing in the final product. This means light can shine through the transparent or translucent enamel and is in effect a miniature stained glass window.
A gorgeous brooch and a fabulous example of French Victorian style and craftsmanship which comes with a secure catch to hold it in place.
